Order number prefixes help organize and identify orders by location, department, or business unit, making it easier to track and manage different types of orders.
Order prefixes provide professional order numbering and help distinguish between different warehouses, departments, or order types.
• "ACME-" is the prefix
• "1000" is the sequence number
- Professional appearance on invoices and documents
- Easy identification of orders by location or department
- Better organization for accounting and reporting
- Compliance with business numbering standards
Set universal prefixes that apply to all orders across your entire system.
- Navigate to Settings
- Go to the third tab
- Enter the Invoice prefix
- Enter the Purchase order prefix
- Save your changes
If you set "ABC-" as your invoice prefix, all order numbers will be:
ABC-0001, ABC-0002, ABC-0003, etc.
Customize prefixes for individual warehouses, allowing each location to have its own unique numbering system.
- Edit the warehouse you want to configure
- Scroll to the Prefix section
- Set the Invoice prefix for this warehouse
- Set the Purchase order prefix for this warehouse
- Save your changes
Each warehouse maintains its own sequence numbering, allowing for better organization:
• Warehouse 001: W-0001, W-0002, W-0003
• Main Store: MS-400052, MS-400053, MS-400054
• Online Orders: WEB-20, WEB-21, WEB-22
Each warehouse can have its own prefix and sequence numbers that increment independently without affecting other warehouses' numbering.
When creating a new order:
- Select the warehouse for the order
- Telesto automatically applies the appropriate prefix
- The system generates the next sequence number
- The complete order number is displayed (e.g., "ABC-1027")
Telesto follows this priority order:
- Warehouse-specific prefix (if set) takes priority
- Global prefix is used if no warehouse prefix exists
- No prefix if neither is configured
- Keep prefixes short (2-5 characters)
- Use meaningful abbreviations (LON- for London, NYC- for New York)
- Include department codes (SALES-, MAINT-, RENT-)
- End prefixes with a separator (- or _)
- Be consistent across all locations
