Import all your products at once using CSV files instead of entering them one by one. This feature is only available in the desktop edition of Telesto.

Accessing the Import Tool

The CSV import tool is available on Windows, macOS, and Linux desktop versions of Telesto.

Open CSV Import:
  1. Open Telesto desktop edition
  2. Click on the toolbar menu
  3. Select Tools
  4. Choose Import CSV file
Using the CSV Template

Telesto provides a CSV template with the correct format and column headers.

Import Process:
  1. Download the CSV template
  2. Open and edit it in your preferred spreadsheet software (Excel, etc.)
  3. Browse, select the CSV file, and click Import

Do not edit the first row (header). Add your product data starting from the second row.

CSV Column Structure

Header columns:
product_name,ean_upc,purchase_price,selling_price,product_desc,color,stock_onhand,stock_critical,category_name,supplier_name,location_name

Column Definitions
  • Column 1: Product name
  • Column 2: UPC/SKU
  • Column 3: Purchase price
  • Column 4: Selling price
  • Column 5: Description
  • Column 6: Color
  • Column 7: Stock on hand
  • Column 8: Critical stock level
  • Column 9: Category name*
  • Column 10: Supplier name*
  • Column 11: Location name*

The last three columns (marked with *) reference existing data in your Telesto system.

How References Work

These columns must match existing names in your system:

  • Category name: Must match an existing category
  • Supplier name: Must match an existing supplier
  • Location name: Must match an existing warehouse/location
Example: If you enter "Frozen" for category name, the system checks if a category named "Frozen" exists. If it does, it assigns that category to the product. If not, the reference is ignored.

Categories, suppliers, and locations referenced in your CSV must already exist in Telesto before importing. Create these items first if they don't exist.
